"I'm no prodigy." - Ashin

Ashin Varanin is a Jedi Knight who has spent most of her life in the Unknown Regions.

In Character

History

Born on New Cov, child of a husband-and-wife trader team, Ashin entered the Jedi Academy as a young teenager. She did not distinguish herself, was no prodigy, and was in general unexceptional. Still a Padawan, she was lured away and kidnapped by Sith; rescued by wandering Jedi, she found herself caught up in a war of independence deep in the Unknown Regions, far beyond the reach of mainstream civilization. It was there that she was Knighted, and spent many years as a rebel, a naval officer and an operative, fighting Yuuzhan Vong, Chiss renegades, Sorcerers of Rhand and Mnggal-Mnggal, among others; at one point or another she has fought every blood-curdling threat of the Unknown Regions. When her adopted home was destroyed by an irresistible enemy, she barely escaped with her life, and fled to the galaxy at large, hoping to find a motivation to keep going.

Traits and Talents

As one kind of genetically engineered Arkanian Offshoot, Ashin has a blend of Arkanian and near-Human DNA. She looks much like a human, as many Offshoots do, except for the claws on her fingertips and vision that edges into the infrared.

Having been subjected to partial Shaping, Ashin has a strong interest in the Yuuzhan Vong, and has a degree of Vongsense. A few scars and implanted creatures remind her constantly that she is a 'Jeedai-who-was-Shaped.' Ashin is a skilled pilot and resistance fighter, capable with several varieties of blaster and slugthrower. Although she carries a lightsabre and is competent in its use, she prefers knives, of which she has several.

Ashin's Knife Collection

Over the course of her time in Wild Space and the Unknown Regions, Ashin has collected many examples of knife, from every major culture in those areas, and carries many of them.

• Yuuzhan Vong: Tsaisi, Coufee, Finger-spear (implanted, left index fingertip)

• Sorcerers of Rhand: crystal dagger, hilted lightdagger

• Ssi-Ruuk: Forked knife

• Nagai: Long knife, throwing knives

Out of Character

The character of Ashin Varanin was first created in 2002 on the Sony Star Wars Galaxies roleplaying boards, which became the Star Wars: Exodus community.

The writer is a guy who has usually maintained about a fifty-fifty split between male and female characters, and who has an established TGC presence.
