"The man who you see is who I am. A Jedi Master who was happy, who laughed, who felt love, who had to make a difficult decision that broke him, and in return, I was given wisdom and experience, but the price was that I lost everything I held dear to me."
―Mak Manto

Mak Manto is a male Thisspiasian Jedi Master who has been alive for more than two hundred years. Serving as a Jedi his entire life, he has been involved in some of the greatest events in the Galaxy.

As the last of the Old Jedi Order, his relationship with the younger generations of Jedi is difficult, and his role as a keeper of the peace in the Galaxy has made it harder for him with newer philosophies becoming the norm.

Currently, he serves a member of the Jedi Council, sitting on the High Council, and is working alongside the Jedi Brotherhood and the Rebellion, trying to stop the Witches of Dathomir, the Sith Council and the Galactic Empire.

A Sad Beginning and a Tough Learning[]

Born to Salazar and Rishia Manto on Thisspias, Mak was alive decades before the events of the Naboo Invasion. He came from a respectable family where his mother and father were with planet security; his father, Salazar Manto, being the head of security operations. Mak was to be given the best education and life style afforded by the government that Salazar worked with, due to the family being part of the elite. Though, right before Mak was born, Salazar was charged with treason for apparently giving secrets to another planet and was sentenced to death. The day he died, Mak was born, and his mother, Rishia Manto, gave Mak up for adoption so he wouldn't bear the disgrace.

After his father was executed, Mak was placed in an orphanage, and upon entering it, he was tested for his midichlorian count. Due to the high count and the fact Mak was a ward of the planet, he was given to the Jedi Order immediately. The Human Jedi Master, Jundo Mandas, took Mak, but instead of returning to Coruscant to have Mak become a youngling, he was brought to Tatooine, where Jundo had been living at the time, looking over Mak until the time would come that he could begin his training.

Jundo's own reasons was that he wanted to train a Jedi, but due to his beliefs in the Potentium, the Jedi Council didn't view him in a favorable light. While he wasn't expelled from the Order, Mandas kept away, and as such, Mak would remain on the planet.

At the young age of two, Jundo began Mak's training. In the harsh desert days, Mak began his tutelage by learning how to control the Force. His first lessons were merely to lift rocks from dawn to dusk, never having them set on the ground. Pushing Mak till he tired out, Jundo kept seeing the potential within his apprentice, knowing there was more he could do and become. This would give him the lessons he would later carry for the rest of his life.

Eventually, he also learned lightsaber combat. For hours at a time, Mak would break apart large structures in the desert, honing his skills. There came a day when he felt that a living opponent would be more suitable for his skills. Boldly claiming he could win in a duel with his Master, Jundo and Mak began a long battle, but one that eventually caused Mak to lose.

Confused that he lost, he asked Jundo why he felt like he was about to win when Jundo defeated him. His Master told him that he had merely let Mak continue the battle until he was tired. He than explained to the boy that when one enters a battle, they have to understanf that their opponent is one who could be even stronger than they are. Mak saw this as a valuable learning lesson and promised Mandas he would become worthy of the title of Jedi.

By the time Mak was a young teenager, Mak and Jundo knew the day was approaching when he would have to go to Coruscant, to take the Jedi Trials and become a Jedi Knight. While Jundo knew Mak was prepared, he secretly held doubts about whether or not the Jedi Order would welcome his apprentice with open arms. Though, Jundo wouldn't see the day.

A New Life Begins[]

At the age of 14, Mak had become proficient with his studies. There was less Jundo was able to teach him, and he and his Master spoke often of the trip to the Jedi Order, that he would become a Jedi Knight. During one of the last training sessions, Mak was told by Jundo that he needed to go into town to pick up a few things, and that he wanted Mak to stay in the house they used until he came back. Mak didn't understand why, but he did as he was told, though Jundo was protecting him, seeing he felt a dark presence on the planet.

About an hour had passed before Mak became worried, and against his Master's wishes, he went to search for him. It didn't take long, though, for him to find Jundo, for he eventually felt the presence of a dark power, and as he came upon it, he saw his Master battling a strange figure in a dark robe, weilding a red lightsaber. When Jundo saw Mak, it allowed for the Sith to take him by surprise, stabbing him before he ran off.

Rushing to his side, Mak sat at Jundo's side as he died, but not before he told Mak that he wanted him to go to Coruscant. The last words he said were of how proud he was of him, that he couldn't ask for a greater apprentice. With his passing, Mak cremated his body in the Dune Sea, a funeral viewed by no other.

Mak's course, after he took the few things that had been kept by him and Jundo in their house, was to get off the planet, and using the few credits he had, managed to get a ride. When he came to Coruscant, he was brought before the Jedi Council, meeting for the first time Jedi other than his own Master. Relaying his story, Jundo was honored by the Order by having a bust placed in the Archives for his heroic service.

While the Council was perturbed by the mysterious figure, they agreed that Mak was an excellent choice to be a Jedi. Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis volunteered to take Mak as his protégeé, and to prepare him for the trials, due in part to them being the same species and that Master Rancisis had been a friend of Jundo's.

Mak began studying advance techniques and Force powers from Master Rancisis, honing his skills even greater than before, and it would be Master Rancisis who would teach him Malacia and Battle Meditation, two powers that he would be well known for later in life.

Two years later, at the age of 16, Mak took the Trials and passed. Upon his ceremony, he became a Jedi Knight, a fully realized Jedi prepared to defend the Galaxy at all costs.

The Tests of Knighthood[]

After becoming a Jedi Knight, instad of taking on an apprentice right away, he felt he owed the Galaxy his time and service. Despite his young age, Mak volunteered to become a Jedi Investigator after he became a Knight, joining a group dedicated to working with law enforcement agencies in tracking down criminals and uncovering hidden and obscure threats to the Galaxy and the Galactic Republic.

Within a short time, he was seen as a dedicated Jedi who had a good track record with going after criminals. The one organization he spent most of his time going after was Black Sun, the most powerful and infamous crime syndicate of its time in the Galaxy. Several threats would rise during this time from Black Sun, but after bringing down several operations and eventually one of it's Vigo's, one of the nine leaders of the organization, he would make a difference against them.

His last mission was going after Farlu the Hutt, a figure who would later become one of Mak's greatest enemies; he had eventually become one of the most infamous crime lords on Coruscant, but who had a penchant for never being able to be arrested. For several years, Mak would come close to arresting him, but a witness dying or a piece of evidence disappearing would allow him to go free.

Eventually, after spending several months on him, he arrested Farlu on three assassinations of two senators and a Supreme Chancellor nominee, finally putting him behind bars. With a strategic victory against the crime world, Mak stepped down from the Investigators.

At the age of 21, he began to train his first padawan, Shara Kelos, one of many over the centuries. For Mak, this was the ultimate test, as he would have to temper his apprentice's unbridled enthusiam, something that would get them in the middle of situations. During this time as well, Mak began to study the unorthodox form of lightsaber combat, utilizing four lightsabers in battle, or at certain points, two double-bladed lightsabers in two hands while keeping his other two free, allowing him to use the Force.

One of their most memorable missions was handling a dispute between the Galactic Republic and Karfeddion, a world that wasn't part of the Republic but one that still dealt with the Republic and where slavery was legal. Outsiders had been banned and attacked, and so Mak and his apprentice were sent by the Council and the Republic to handle the problem, to bridge a relationship and come to an agreement that would end it.

The lord of the entire sector, who controlled the planet, had stated he would never agree to any deal, but he was a man who loved puzzles and board games immensely. Mak stated if his padawan learner lost to the ruler in a game of Dejarik, they would leave and the Republic would not interfere in their business, but if the apprentice won, he would have to end slavery.

In a match that lasted for six hours, the two played before a crowd of a hundred thousand beings, where, in a great move, his padawan won. The slaves were freed, and the planet was no longer a slave world. While the ruler was angry that he had lost, he knew attacking Mak would only invoke a war with the Republic. When they returned to Coruscant, his apprentice was hailed as being the girl who ended slavery with a game.

After six years of dedicated work, his apprentice became a Jedi Knight and Mak himself was given the rank of Jedi Master, recogonized for his devotion to democracy, his skill with a lightsaber and his strength and balance in the Force.
