Sylvia Louise Alvaro is a human female and the only child of Camilla Ann Alvaro and Marcus James Alvaro. She is considered to be very emotionally detached and reclusive, a gunslinger and a demolitions expert who designs and builds her own explosives. She is also a Captain in the Rogue Squadron branch of the Rebellion and a mercenary associated with the Galactic Underworld.
Sylvia is a petite, but athletic, young woman who stands at only 5’6 in height. She has beautiful green eyes that occasionally appear to have flecks of silver through them, and are framed with the darkest and longest of lashes. She has long, thick brown hair that reaches the bottom of her shoulder blades. It tends to curl in warmer weather but is mostly straight, and she often wears it down or in a high ponytail. Her skin is smooth and fair; therefore she burns easily when in the sunlight for too long and it makes it hard for her to blush inconspicuously – which she does only on the rarest of occasions.
She is commonly seen wearing clothes of dark muted colours; purples, reds and black. Typically it is a combination of leather pants, loose shirts/singlets and boots that adorn her athletic frame. While she does own several beautifully designed dresses and exspensive pieces of jewellery, she rarely wears them unless it is on a special occasions, such as balls or banquets.
She often sports a bruise here and there or a split lip from as a result of fighting with others and while she had no tattoos to speak of, Sylvia does have several scars on both her wrists from failed suicide attempts.
As a jack-of-all trades Sylvia has several skills, most notably are her skill as a pilot and her skill with her hands. While she hasn’t always been a pilot, upon joining the Rebellion her natural talent was recognized and so she enlisted in Rogue Squadron where she was trained by Jessalyn Cassidy. The majority of the skills Sylvia possess she uses her hands for and so she considers them to be her livelihood; she is a gunslinger and sharpshooter, and she prefers close range weapons to long range weapons.
She happens considers herself an up and coming demolitions expert as she is very capable of designing and building her own explosives, and she is also capable of dismantling most explosives she comes across. She also happens to be a very talented pianist. Sylvia is not an easily frightened or intimidated person and she often shows tremendous courage in the face of danger; especially where friends and loved ones are concerned. She is willing to stand her ground and fight any foe, whether it is with a blaster, which she wields with great proficiency, or with explosives, which she is always carrying.
Her emotional detachment and reclusive nature make it quite difficult to blackmail her as more often than not she simply does not care for others or their safety. The majority of the time she is able to keep her emotions hidden so if her friends or loved ones happen to be in danger she is able to remain aloof and use it to her advantage.
Sylvia’s list of flaws is extensive and greatly outweighs any of the strengths she possesses. To begin, she is extremely untrusting of strangers and often questions their motives, unfortunately this makes it difficult for others to get close to her and to get to know her. Very rarely is she willing to grant others a second chance, even rarer a third chance, as her trust is hard to earn and easy to break – there is very little that she will tolerate. Some lies she understands and is willing to other look while others she simply will not forgive. This has led to her holding grudges for years on ends.
Her lack of fear in the face of danger also happens to be a weakness as it often leads her into dangerous and even deadly situations. While she denies it, Sylvia is quite obviously suicidal. This leads to her often fighting opponents that she has no chance of defeating in the hopes that it will get herself killed. However, she is also very stubborn and is known to fight until she cannot physically stand.
While Sylvia intends to uphold the oath she swore to the Rebellion, she professes to lack real loyalties to its cause or its members. This had led to her being somewhat of a loose cannon; she prefers to do her own thing, often doesn’t like being told what to do – particularly by those she doesn’t like – and isn’t one to follow the rules.
Like everyone there are two sides to Sylvia.
On one side there is an emotionally detached and reclusive woman: one who comes across as aloof and uncaring, and who would rather be left to her own devices. While on the other side there is a very lonely woman: one who desires nothing more than to open up and make friends. In truth Sylvia is a contradiction. More often than not she is extremely lonely and desires company and friends. But because she is afraid of people getting too close or people finding out the truth and of getting hurt again, she tends pushes people away with hurtful words or actions. Despite this Sylvia is a pleasant enough person to be around provided that a person does not mind her abrupt and brutally honest nature.
As a child she was always very self-conscious and withdrawn. This had resulted in her constantly shying away from interacting with others and overtime this developed into a strong dislike, hatred even, of interacting with others and of physical contact. Because she didn’t have many friends while growing up and kept to herself often, Sylvia did not learn how to socialize properly. As an adult this is painfully obvious as she does not display manners and she is brutally honest as she does not consider other people’s feelings.
Sylvia typically sees no point in keeping secrets and is usually quite honest with others but when questioned about her family or her past she will change the subject and avoid the answers at all costs. Despite her many flaws, Sylvia is quite fond of children and has been known to go out of her way to help them when they are face with difficult situations. Over the years she had become extremely good at concealing her emotions, so much so that there are times when she isn’t certain what she is feeling. Anger comes naturally too her as she has grown up with violence while emotions such as happiness or desire frighten her.
Sylvia does not forgive easily, is known to hold grudges for years on end and is prone to violent tendencies.
- "There is a reason I do the things I do. And there is a reason I am who I am."
- ―Sylvia Alvaro, on her past.
Very little is known about Sylvia’s past because she has never been forthcoming with details. What is known is scarce and is either hearsay or fiction, and that is the way Sylvia intends to keep it. However, there are a few lucky individuals who have been fortunate enough to see the woman behind the walls. It is these people who truly know her and it is these people that know her story.
Sylvia Louise Alvaro is the only child of parents Camilla Ann Alvaro (née Jones) and Marcus James Alvaro, who were only sixteen and eighteen respectively upon her conception. She was born on Dantooine, late in the evening and during the middle of a severe thunderstorm. Her birth had not been easy for the young mother, who had to endure tremendous pain during the several hours of labour, and while Camilla had survived the difficult birthing, it had left her severely weakened and unable to care for herself for some time. Because of this the proud parents decided that Sylvia would be their only child.
Like many teen parents, neither Camilla nor Marcus had been prepared for the challenge of parenthood and neither of them had known just how difficult raising a child could be, but they were determined to make their family work and stay together. However not even the best of intentions could save their doomed relationship. Outwardly everything appeared to be normal, happy even. To those looking in they were a young couple making the most of their mistake but behind closed doors things were anything but happy. The two of them fought constantly and made no effort to hide their arguments from their young daughter. They fought about everything: the most common of their arguments being about money, who would look after their child and who would go out partying.
It wasn’t long after Sylvia's first birthday when Camilla developed an addiction to alcohol and soon after that she became physically violent towards her husband, often she would use violence to get her way. Marcus was left to deal with the repercussions of her addiction and violent tendencies, he also became the primary carer of their daughter while his wife spent many nights out drinking, partying and sleeping around. It was only a matter of time before this put a strain of their relationship and when Sylvia was just five years of age, things between Camilla and Marcus reached critical.
Tired of his wife’s constant drinking and sleeping around, Marcus left. Camilla begged and pleaded for him to stay but he still left without warning: the last words he uttered to his daughter? ‘It has been nice knowing you, kid.’ And those words would stay with Sylvia for years to come.
With her husband gone, Camilla turned her aggression towards her daughter, whom she blamed for Marcus leaving her. Camilla began to physically abuse her daughter out of spite and hatred, and often claimed that it was a punishment. This affected Sylvia greatly, while she had always been a shy and quiet child before the abuse, after it began she became even more withdrawn. She would flinch at the slightest of movements, she also began to doubt everything she did, refused to speak out of fear of being stuck again and stopped interacting with many individuals. She became a social outcast among the neighbourhood children and so when she was not at home or being beaten by her mother, she was being picked on and ridiculed by them. Often she and the other children would get into fights which she would rarely win.
In the years the followed her father’s sudden departure, Sylvia became quite depressed, self-conscious and even anti-social. That was until her seventh birthday. Several days after she had turned seven, Sylvia had met a young man by the name of Randall Carter, whom was five years her senior. Like many he had seen the cuts and bruises marring the young girl’s body but unlike others, he had taken it upon himself to investigate. It took months of persistence and patience before she would even look at him let alone speak, but in the end he was able to connect with Sylvia and forge a friendship with the lonely little girl.
One of the many ways he had attempted to connect with her was through music, the piano in particular, and so the two of them bonded over their mutual love of classical music. Once Randall had gotten her to talk it was impossible to stop her. She talked to him about anything and everything: what had happened between her parents, what was happening with her mother, the beatings, her feelings – absolutely everything. While the abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother did not stop, in fact it only became worse as Sylvia grew older, she no longer felt the need to keep the abuse to herself or bottle things inside.
Randall became her lifeline of sorts: he became her brother, her friend – her everything. As the years passed and the two of them grew older quite close. They spent countless days together playing the piano, talking about anything and everything or telling one another secrets they felt they could tell no one else.
And finally life was easier for Sylvia.

The Galatic UnderworldEdit
- "At some point I stopped pretending and I started caring."
- ―Sylvia Alvaro, on her relationships.
Sylvia has always had difficulties making friends, an even harder time finding love and yet enemies came as naturally to her as breathing. The woman tends to shy away from everything and everyone, or she will push people away. She refuses to take down her walls and allow any to see behind them, she refuses to allow anyone to see her for who she is but every now and then someone comes along and manages to throw a wrench into the works. These people are able to make a connection with her and it is these people that change the reclusive woman, usually for the worst but occasionally for the better.
