The Jedi HealerEdit

History Of HealersEdit

In ancient times the Force was simply called The Way. In 36,453 BBY when several force sensitive from several species from all over the galaxy was taken aboard one of the Tho Yor to Tython .  These pilgrims went to learn the force. These are the ancestors of the Jedi.  Before this was the Kwa, before this was the Gree and before them was the Celestials whom are also known as the Architects.  Very little information survived from countless wars of these ancient peoples and ancient Tython where the Jedi order was birthed.

The word Jedi comes from the word Je’daii which came from the word “mystic center” in the language of the Talid Specie’s Order of Dai Bendu.  This is said so we do not forget where we come from.  To know how and why we are what we are is as important as where the Force will take us as we walk our path in The Way.   As a Healer understanding the force in many aspects is of utmost importance.  The art of Healing is a multi-faceted skill.  To heal means to understand what needs to be healed.

The ability to Heal through the force has been in existence since the Force has been taught; however, the focused study of it to become a Jedi healer has not the long history.  The earliest record of organized jedi healing was in 4000 BBY.  If there is more to the history of The Jedi Healer, it is still being ought. A Jedi healer was a specialized field of study within the ranks of the Jedi Order. Those Jedi Knights that wished to amplify the healing abilities taught to all at the Jedi academy who would chose to continue study as a Jedi Consular, working with the Circle of Jedi Healers and the Medical Corps. A healer's role in the Order was self-evident and their existence has spanned millennia; the role was described in conjunction with ways of the Consular in the Jedi High Council approved text, The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force. The section on Jedi healers was put into writing by the famed Jedi Seer, Sabla-Mandibu

Stationed out of the Coruscant Jedi Temple's Halls of Healing, the healers were led by the Circle and practiced their arts on all Jedi needing medical treatment. Using special crystals to amplify their abilities, the most treasured stones were guarded at the Temple, known as the Healing Crystals of Fire. Drawing on the Living Force, Jedi healers served not only in hospitals and med-facilities, but also on battlefields during times of war and crisis.

While the Circle was a group of highly experienced healers, it was led by a Chief Healer who oversaw all procedures within the Halls of Healing. During the Clone Wars, the strict Twi'lek Jedi, Vokara Che held this position, running the facility with a severe dislike for anyone who would interfere in the healing process. Following the destruction of the Jedi Order in 19 BBY and the end of the Great Jedi Purge during the Galactic Civil War, Master Cilghal was chosen from Luke Skywalker's inaugural class of the reformed Order to lead the teaching of Jedi students who wished to walk the path of a healer.

The Halls of Healing as constructed around 4000 BBY. It has been sacked and rebuilt twice more before it was completely destroyed and creating the Circle of Jedi Healers and grandeur of the Halls of Healing was thought unnecessary when the order was renewed through Luke Skywalker.  No one has seen the splendor of the Healing Crystals of Fire or the Halls of Healing since that time again.

List of Ailments and Disease:Edit

note: This is not an exhaustive list but should cover most of the diseases and ailments. This is a growing document and is every in flux of updates as i come across something to put into it.

Affliceria

Was a disease spread through airborne bacterium. It starts with a head cold which would rapidly develop into raging fevers and severe dehydration. Left untreated, the disease could kill. A cure has already been found a hundred years before the Confederation-Galactic Alliance War and it was pronounced extinct not long after. As retaliation for the asteroids dropped on Commenor's population centers, Commenori spies began spreading the disease on Coruscant. Due to having no stores of the antibiotic for the disease, the epidemic spread rampantly through the population and resulted in massive personnel shortage in critical fabrication industries.

An allergy was an affliction that several species could attain. Some allergies were powerful enough that they could kill a being. Allergy paste could be used to treat allergies.Examples: * Mynocks had a fatal allergy to helium. * The Pui-Ui were known to have a fatal allergy to perigen. * Gil Bastra had developed an allergic reaction to bacta after being treated with a contaminated batch and died from it. * Tharil Tavira also had a fatal allergic reaction with bacta. * Sebairns had an allergy to legumes.

The Ardroxian Flu

Was a type of disease. It was known to be carried within the remains of corpses and was possibly capable of infecting numerous non-Human species including, apparently, Wookiees. It was mentioned by the hermetic Jedi Jolee Bindo as a metaphor for how he perceived the impact that Chuundar, the onetime Chieftain of Rwookrrorro Village, and his dealings with Czerka Corporation had on the culture of the Wookiee homeworld of Kashyyyk.

Ascomycetous Pneumoconiosis or Fester Lung

==Was a disease caused by the inhalation of certain mold spores. Usually accompanied by a high fever, many victims died from literally cooking in their own bodily fluids. It was usually encountered on humid, jungle-infested worlds such as Drongar.

Bacteria mutation ===

===Was a term applied to a process where a common bacteria from the Kathol Outback was mutated by exposure to the elements within the Kathol Rift. The resulting mutation spoiled food stores, leaving ships without a food source unless remedied. Doctor Vin Emil, a xenobotanist at the Q'Maere Research Facility, developed an antidote for the mutation known as Variant Alpha.

Bakuran Fever Bumps ===

===Were a condition found on the planet Bakura. The disease resulted in the victim being covered with numerous small welts.

Balinquar's Virus ===

Was a fictitious disease that supposedly affected male Arkanian offshoots when they reached old age, caused paranoia, and could be deadly. Arkoh Adasca claimed that Camper was infected with it, but, later, in private conversation with Rohlan Dyre, it was revealed to be a ruse designed to separate Camper from Jarael.

note: If you see something that is missing that will update this let me know.

Alazhi was one of the main components of bacta. It was a bacteria grown in a medium of xoorzi fungus in large processing plants, however was also created naturally by the Vratix's secretions. Alazhi came from the planet Thyferra and was grown as a major export on the planet Verkuyl.

Antisepsis fields were a type of energy field umbrella that killed microscopic fungi, mold, bacteria, and spores. They were generally used on worlds such as Haruun Kal and Drongar that contained excessive amounts of harmful microscopic life. In such applications, they could either be set up to cover an entire area (i.e. the customs section of the Pelek Baw spaceport), or used to protect a much smaller item, such as a retrofitted Turbostorm-class gunship. They could also be used for medical purposes, and the Republic Rimsoo field medical units made extensive use of them, placing small fields around the hospital beds of medical patients. One side effect of the fields was that they killed benevolent skin and intestinal flora along with the harmful types, although these beneficial bacteria could be replaced easily with pro-biotic showers for the skin and special tablets for the intestines.

Antishock was a medicine used for people who were suffering from concussions or similar wounds. It came in ampule form.

Bacta was a synthetic chemical substance that consisted of gelatinous, translucent red alazhi and kavam bacterial particles that were mixed within a colorless, viscous fluid known as ambori. When a patient was exposed to bacta, the bacterial particles within sought out wounds and promoted rapid tissue regeneration while preventing the emergence of scar tissue. Bacta was often thought of as a "miracle fluid", and seemed to be effective against almost every type of injury and ailment across an incredible cross-section of species throughout the galaxy. It was considered to be the best medicine available anywhere, with kolto as its short-lived competitor.

Bactade was an edible form of bacta that was introduced some time prior to 9 ABY. A muddy liquid that was dispensed in bottles, bactade possessed good healing qualities, however it had a terrible, chalky taste.

Bio-Bacta is biotechnical Bacta, not synthesized standard Bacta. It is manufactured specifically for use in field, and is often seen in the form of small bacta tanks suitable for being carried by a single person. Wounds can be nearly perfectly healed, though for extensive injuries a full size Bacta tank is recommended.

Glue stat was a medical substance made from cloned tissue and an adhesive made from Talusian mussels. It could be placed on a laceration, and would dissolve, sealing the opening.

Greshollpolyforim was a chemical compound used to help a user typically hindered by operating in high gravity able to move as if in their typical gravity. It cost 150 credits per dose and the effects lasted for 3 hours. Greshollpolyforim could be applied by the Cyduct E-23 Booster interdermal injection system.

Gylocal was a powerful stimulant and pain-suppressor made from several highly toxic components. After around a decade of storage it decomposed back into its poisonous components.

Haladreshin was a chemical compound that acted as a neurological stimulant. It cost two hundred credits per dose and the effects lasted for approximately eight standard hours. Haladreshin could be applied by the Cyduct E-23 Booster inter dermal injection system.

Hydration tablets kept beings hydrated when in desert environments for long periods of time.

Hypnocane was a tranquilizer.

Kavam was a chemical used in the manufacture of bacta. It was excreted by the Vratix.

Kolcta, a rare hybrid of bacta and kolto, was an extremely powerful curative agent. The fluid was so scarce that full submersion was unpractical, so it was usually sold and applied as a simple soaked cloth. Kolcta treatment could help reattach severed limbs, heal almost any kind of wound and, if ingested, counter the effects of aging.

Kolto was a liquid known for its healing abilities. It was found in the water oceanic planet Manaan, with a significant concentration near the Hrakert Rift along with other underwater chasms. It was considered a valuable commodity during the Jedi Civil War, but its significance was lost over time, being replaced in favor of bacta. During the Galactic Civil War, the effectiveness of kolto was considered to be less than bacta, but some historians have suggested that it may have been more powerful in the past.

Narco-mist was a medicinal agent sprayed on the body of an injured being in order to help speed their recovery; it took the form of a reddish chemical mist. The patient did not feel any pain when the substance was applied.

Numb-spray was a spray-on anesthetic.

Nyex was a painkiller that caused drowsiness.

Paravacc 1.X was a parasite-repelling vaccine developed by Uukaablian MedCorp on Uukaablis in 8 ABY. The vaccine was contained in a polished metal cylinder, and administered by injection into the back of the neck. A mild headache occured after injection. Prolonged use of the product (over three days at a time) was known to produce deleterious effects to the nervous system.

Perigen was a mild, non-narcotic painkiller applied in patch form. Pui-Ui are fatally allergic to perigen.

Phosovane salts were a base ingredient for pain-killer medicines commonly used on Rim Worlds.

Pommwomm plants were a hot-world shrub native to the Sif'kric system's inner planet. If they were properly processed within thirty hours of picking, they could be made into at least eight different medicinal substances, and at least sixteen different natural flavorings. Export of pommwomm plants made up about 20% of the Sif'kric economy.

Requilisant was a chemical compound that reduced the dexterity penalty associated with operating in low or zero gravity. It cost 200 credits per dose and the effects lasted for 6 standard hours. Requilisant could be applied by the Cyduct E-23 Booster interdermal injection system.

Rylca was a cure for the krytos virus formed from a combination of bacta and ryll kor. It was developed by the Vratix verachen Qlaern Hirf for the New Republic in 7 ABY to cure the krytos plague outburst on Coruscant. Alderaan Biotics was a large rylca manufacturer.

Salve was an antibiotic healing remedy, sprayed or smeared onto burns and wounds of the skin. It was a wet, stringy, goopy jelly-like substance that exhibited a vile chemical smell, purchased in a tube or jar. It was essential for first-aid kits. Many salves were bacta based, though natural salves such as the skin oil of a ghhhk were also used.

Sedative H4b was a drug commonly taken directly into the blood-stream as a sedative to induce unconciousness used in hospitals. But it could be used to induce a high of semisomnia.

Steriplast was a material wrapped around broken limbs to help them set.

A Stimpak was a small utility container used by soldiers for the storage of Bacta canisters and other first aid supplies in the field.

Stinksalts were prepackaged minerals that came with a standard medical first-aid kit. Their extremely foul and potent scent was used to rouse people from unconsciousness after they had fainted or had become incapacitated via some other means.

Symoxin was a fairly common painkiller. In concentrated doses, the drug could be used as a knock-out poison, perfect for use with dart launchers or other weapons.

Synthflesh was a medpack supply that bonded real flesh until repairs could be made. It was very similar to synthskin.

Synthplast was presumably a type of synthetic skin. It could rot into a coarse gray mass.

Synthskin was a medical technology very similar to Human flesh. Synthdroids, Human replica droids, most prosthetic limbs, and General Grievous's gutsack were all covered in synthskin. It was very similar to synthflesh. DD-11A was also covered in synthskin.

Telezan was a mild anti-depressant.

Thanatizine was a drug that would put an individual into a state close to suspended animation. In such a state, a Human would breathe around ten times an hour, and have a heartrate of less than a beat per minute.

Tranqarest was a powerful sedative.

Triptophagea was an anti-fever drug that had a sharp, sweet smell.

Umgullian blob massage therapy was used to cure people under stress. Blobs would slide themselves over someone to help relax their muscles. However, the therapy had its drawbacks. Rith Murisson, a native of Krnay, got disfiguring marks on her back after receiving blob therapy.

Vincha was a plant which tubercles had incredible anesthetic proprieties. Vincha tubercles were white, not bigger than a thumb but highly esteemed by Dantari people.

A vitapill was a small herbal stimulant in pill form, a combination of Drallish herbs and bacta emulsion. It worked as a short-term health booster.

Wander-kelp was native to Chad. They were partway between animal and plant, and were grown on the world's sea-ranches. They had low intelligence, but were able to move on their own; they contained iodine-filled leaves which were harvested several times a year and distilled for medicinal use.

The Cyduct E-23 Booster was a interdermal injection system manufactured by Selesin Medicinal Electronics. It facilitated the application of chemical boosters or other medication inconspicuously. The chemical booster could be worn on the wrist or shoulder strap and used a system of micro-sonic vibration injectors to deliver the desired chemicals directly through the skin without pain or leaving a mark. The system could also be configured for continuous feed or time release application.

Gas binders was an injector that shot a chemical into the user's bloodstream, selectively cleansing it of a number of toxins for a few minutes.

Was a mildly contagious form of the flu causing intense sinus pain and swelling, accompanied by the excessive production of mucous. Han Solo once caught Balmorra Flu while on the planet Dantooine.

Bandonian Plague was a virulent plague.

The Benkal Plagues was a series of medical disasters perpetrated by the Happy Blasters.

Bitter Winter was the Basic name for the disease also known on Corellia as Brekken Vinthern. This affliction struck the elderly and created holes in their memories. Toob Ancher, a Corellian smuggler, caught this disease during retirement and slowly lost his mind. ((This disease is akin to that of the real-world Alzheimer's disease, as both deal with elderly memory loss.))

Blastonecrosis was a highly lethal disease. Symptoms included fatigue and loss of appetite. Blactonecrosis could be masked by the consumption of lotiramine, which hid the tracer enzymes marking the disease's presence in the body. The purposely contaminated bacta from Lot ZX1449F caused roughly two percent of those exposed to contract blastonecrosis. In these cases, blastonecrosis was incurable, as bacta was the only effective treatment for the disease.

Bledsoe's Disease was bioengineered by Doctor Kaaldar, an elite Imperial scientist, in the years following the Battle of Yavin. Specific strains of the disease could be released at will, each causing unique reactions. Commonly, Bledsoe's caused the skin to burn, followed gradually by discoloration of the eyes. The discoloration resolved itself into a starfield pattern--dictated by the strain in question. Each pattern was a starmap which revealed the location of a Rebel base. Imperial forces watched for outbreaks of Bledsoe's and used the discoloration as a silent means of communication and strategizing.

Bonadan Cough was a mildly contagious virus that originated from Bonadan. The ailment's major symptoms included a hoarse cough and deep fatigue.

Bothan Redrash was a disease that caused a severe outbreak of rashes all along the body. Bothan Redrash, not easily spread through physical contact, only affected Bothans and several other humanoid species.

Brainrot Plague was an affliction in Humans that struck the population of Jabiim prior to the Clone Wars. The Galactic Republic did not send aid. This may be related in some way to Brainworm Rot Type A, B, and C.

Brainworm Rot Type A was an airborne disease that afflicted humanoids and cephalopoids with high levels of dialogen in their bloodstream, including Neimoidians (and presumably Duros and other Near-Duros), Anomids, and Wol Cabasshites. Symptoms included nausea, cold sweats, the inability to process written instructions, syntax errors in spoken and written communication, and isolated purpling of gills and blowholes. During the Separatist Crisis, the great number of refugees traveling to Coruscant created an outbreak of the virus in the Manarai Heights district. Like Brainworm Rot Type C, it is likely that this malady originated on Neimoidia.

Brainworm Rot Type B was a less lethal version of Brainworm Rot Type A; however, it could rapidly mutate into Type A if left unchecked. The new strain of Type B was discovered c. 1 ABY to be thriving among creature lairs. Wol Cabasshite Ambassador Lurll spearheaded a campaign on Tatooine to kill off all infected animals, to prevent further spread. Like Brainworm Rot Type C, it is likely that this malady originated on Neimoidia.

Brainworm Rot Type C was a disease that originated on Neimoidia, a planet notorious for its frequent quarantines. It was this attribute that led Ebenn Q3 Baobab, after serving as a Neimoidian fleet doctor, to joke that "the principal export of the Neimoidian home planet is Brainworm Rot Type C".

Brandy Ague was starfighter pilot slang for a hangover.

Brightsickness was a disease that Twi'leks were susceptible to that addled the mind. It may have been similar to heatstroke and had something to do with the Bright Lands.

Brownlung was a disease found on the planet Adumar similar to lung cancer or black lung. It was more common in the working classes than in the nobility, mostly because the working classes were forced to live in underground turumme warrens.

Bunkurd Sewer Disorder was a disease which was caused by ingesting the bacterium produced from a Bunkurd Sewer. Bunkurd Sewers were first pioneered on Coruscant a couple of hundred years before the rise of the Galactic Empire, where genetically modified bacterium were introduced into the sewers to speed up the cleaning of the water. It was estimated that the bacterium sped up the reprocessing time by 30%, which Ton Phanan remarked was "amazing." Unfortunately, if the bacterium entered into the digestive system of a live being it produced side-effects akin to food-poisoning. Mos Eisley, on the planet Tatooine used a Bunkurd Sewer and Falynn Sandskimmer once contracted the illness. She remarked that she was as "sick as a womp rat for a week." The planet of Storinal suffered an outbreak of Bunkurd Sewer Disorder some time in or before 8 ABY and in order to manufacture a cure, some of the bacterium was stored in a hospital. Wraith Squadron who were then operating on Night Caller were going to rendezvous with the Hawkbat, a ship in Zsinj's employ. It was decided that the Hawkbat should be infected with a mysterious malady so the two crews would never meet face to face. Ton Phanan, Kell Tainer and Tyria Sarkin were sent to infiltrate Storinal and steal some culture. After Falynn's description, it was decided that Bunkurd Sewer Disorder fit the description nicely. The bacterium was put in the external air vents of the Hawkbat's shuttle and spread amongst the crew of the ship. When the Hawkbat and the Night Caller met a few days later, the Hawkbat was under quarantine.

Calcification is the sudden, rapid deposition of minerals in the bloodstream onto bones. Side effects include dizzyness, blurred vision, muscle spasms, and muscle weakness. Bacta tank immersion or bed rest can cure it; if untreated, the affliction can become permanent. Calcification is caused by exposure to high-strength electric fields. It is also one of the aftereffects of exposure to Force lightning; Luke Skywalker suffered calcification after the Battle of Endor; it is unknown whether Palpatine also experienced it after his confrontation with Mace Windu.

The Candorian plague was an airborne plague. During the Republic Dark Age, an epidemic of the disease wiped out as much as two-thirds of the population of some cities. It was later cultivated by the Empire for use against rebellious planets. It was extremely contagious to Humans, leading to a speedy, agonizing, certain death. In 45 BBY, the total loss of the Bandorian colonies left the disease no way to propagate, and it was believed to be extinct until used by the Empire against the planet Dentaal, which had just expelled Governor Taliff and declared independence. It killed hundreds of thousands in the capital of Calif City within the first few hours of its appearance; within two days, it had killed ten billion people, sweeping over the entire Kindelian continent. The entire planet was depopulated within two months, and the Empire claimed that the plague was a Rebel plot.

Cardooine Chills was a virus that caused congestion, coughing, fatigue and body aches as well as an insatiable appetite. The virus had relatively stable structure, and those afflicted by it generally developed an immunity, allowing the virus to strike only once in a lifetime. Moreover, it could be prevented through the use of vaccines. Around the time of the Bacta War, a similar virus haunted the inhabitants of Halanit, except that the virus mutated at such a rate that it was impossible to prevent using vaccines and would strike the same individual more than once.

Cathor Fever was believed to have originated on the planet Ithor.

Cavern fever was a common childhood disease acquired by youngling Twi'leks from the Darkside of Ryloth.

Cerebellitis was a debilitating condition of the brain that affected many Human-replica droids that had been reprogrammed from their original creation.

Chirgotta was an intestinal parasite that caused illness in many species throughout Galaxy. The Galactic Chirgotta Awareness Council was formed to heighten the public awareness of Chirgotta and to encourage good intestinal hygiene.

Clone madness was an affliction of clones. If a clone was grown too quickly, the clone's mind would begin to deteriorate, leading to psychosis. The shortest time to normally grow a clone was one standard year. The reason for clone madness was a debated issue. Some scientists believed that it was because the body was grown too quickly, and the brain being fed information could not handle the amount of data at such a rate. Others believed that it was due to a "double presence" the clone caused in the Force. During his campaign against the New Republic, Grand Admiral Thrawn used ysalamiri to "push back" the Force around the Spaarti cylinders he was using to create an army. By doing this, Thrawn was able to grow an adult Human clone in twenty days, but with no risk of clone madness.

A cold was an ailment that could be caught by Humans and individuals of other species. It gave them nasal congestion.

A coma, also going comatose, was a debilitating effect on beings that completely disabled them and left them in a completely unconscious, near-death state. Comas could be triggered by severe injury, toxins or drugs, or could be intentionally entered by certain Jedi. Moonglow was known to produce a hallucinatory coma followed by death.

Container Taint was a general title given to any disease or affliction resulting from the consumption of spoiled or damaged food and/or beverages.

The coomb spore was a single species of microorganism engineered by the Yuuzhan Vong agent Nom Anor. Part of the executor's plan to ascend to the rank of high prefect, Nom Anor designed the coomb, brollup, tegnest, and more than a dozen other varieties of spore to be used as weapons capable of destroying the New Jedi Order. In normal beings, the spores broke down the victim’s molecular structure and caused an agonizing death, usually within a few days. Of the first group that Nom Anor used the spores on, Mara Jade Skywalker was the only one who lived longer than a few weeks. The disease was non-communicable, as the coomb spores died along with the victim. Although an impressive range of species were known to have been vulnerable to its effects, with differing lengths of illness for each, it was not clear whether the Yuuzhan Vong themselves were susceptible to the toxin. The shlecho newt enjoyed eating coomb spores, and so could serve as a detector of them.

The Corellian Tanamen Fever was a flu-like illness common on the planet Corellia. It was rarely fatal, especially when caught in its early stages. Even the later stages could be cured through simple bacta submersion. Usual symptoms included high fever, extreme thirst, and loss of equilibrium.

Crazed Bantha Fever was a disease carried by sand ticks and transmitted to humanoids through the tick's bite. While not fatal, it was extremely painful.

Creek Fever was a disease unique to the jungle moon of Yavin 4. The fever was sometimes contracted by beings who wandered too long in the world’s jungles. Unless treated quickly, it was often fatal.

Crimson Forever was a disease caused by two unique stones. When the stones were separated, they produced a negative aura in the Force. This caused an exotic ailment, which induced a coma in its victims. A victim’s body would slow to the barest of minimums to support life. While under the fever, the victims had intense dreams and their eyes and skin turned a reddish color.

Cybernetic Psychosis was a condition of insanity often experienced by users of cybernetic implants or borg constructs. Essentially, the direct connection from the living brain to a computer system drove the cyborg insane over time, causing the victim to lose control over both cybernetic implant and mental facility. The onset of the condition was accelerated by prolonged connections to a computer system. Thus, the manufacturers of such devices recommended limited connection times.

Cyberostasis, also Cybero-stasis or Cyberstatis, was a state that a droid could be forced into as a result of a traumatic experience. It was a protective reflex coded into the droid’s core programming, shutting down all of the droid’s systems. This condition could be triggered due to a number of stimuli. However, if a droid was unable to anticipate the trauma, the cyberstasis system would not be activated. In those situations, a droid remained activated during the trauma, resulting in puzzling and unusual behaviors.

Cyborrean rabies was a disease that originated on Cyborrea. Picaroon C. Boodle was accused of having it on Eriadu, where he was quarantined and became a subject of Tuzin Gast's Project Chubar.

Dagobian Swamp Cough was a virus found on the planet Dagobah which caused a hacking cough.

Dantari Flu was believed to have orgininated on the planet Dantooine. This sickness affected many humanoid species, and if left untreated, could result in death.

The Death Seed plague was a disease caused by parasitic drochs which caused necrosis of the skin and ultimately led to death. The Death Seed was caused by drochs, which could steal life force energy from its host. If allowed to remain attached, the droch burrowed into its host began to mimic the host's electrochemical fields and tissue composition, allowing it to avoid detection by essentially becoming part of the host while drawing life from them. Drochs grew and became more intelligent with each host they killed, and larger drochs could absorb life through smaller ones, without having to take a host directly. Victims would display no perceptive ailment – no virus, no bacteria, no poison and no allergy – just the rapid decay of the skin as the plague took hold. With the drochs able to escape detection while in a host, the cause remained unknown. Bacta therapy only accelerated the disease, because the healing provided a renewed source of energy for the droch. Victims could die within half an hour after displaying initial symptoms. ?

Deepsick was a condition describing the mental and emotional breakdown occurring in certain individuals who had been traveling in deep space for long periods of time.

Devaronian blood-poisoning was an affliction that could affect Humans.

Dioxo-brionchiectasis was a disease contracted on Coruscant. The Rhire Medical Academy released a report of middle-class districts on Coruscant that identified 10 species under the risk of being affected with diseases from the pollution, including Abinyshi, Bovorian, Chadra-Fan, Mrissi, Mrlssti, Pa'lowick, Quor'sav, Rishii, Shashay, and Vors.

Direllian Plague was an often fatal disease that could only be counteracted by the administration of Shiarha root.

Disorientation syndrome was a condition that caused a loss of directional sense and could prevent a sufferer from being able to qualify as a pilot. There were many possible causes of disorientation syndrome, including as the result of a rare, and incurable, disease that affected the brain stem. Breth Gart was a known sufferer, though he eventually overcame the symptoms to become a starfighter pilot for the Rebel Alliance

Dormo-shock was a natural reaction to a severe physical or emotional trauma that induced a coma-like condition.

The Drakñahr Syndrome was an obscure disease that struck without warning, often confusing doctors who were treating it as another illness.

Dry-scale Hives was a skin affliction that affected the Rodian race.

Dust fever was an illness common among children on the planet Tatooine. The afflicted individual often had vivid dreams—and rarely lucid dreams—of strange and unusual themes.

Dysentery was a disease.

The Emperor's Plague was a mutagenic plague developed by Evir Derricote that only killed Humans. It was more deadly than the Krytos virus which killed millions of aliens on Coruscant following the New Republic capture of Coruscant in 6 ABY. It was said to be so horrible that even the Emperor Palpatine feared to deploy it. This plague was stored at an uncharted asteroid known as the Emperor's Plague Storehouse. In 24 ABY, a sample of it was obtained by an information broker Fonterrat who sold it to Nolaa Tarkona.

The Endregaad Plague was a virulent disease that arose on the planet Endregaad during the early years of the New Order. Symptoms included fever, extreme loss of bodily fluids, crusting around the eyes and mouth, and the swelling of the tongue and fingers. After close examination, it was concluded that, while non-fatal, no species was naturally immune to the disease. Medicinal spice was found to combat the disease, but multiple treatments were required to prevent relapse. Pending further study, it was learned that the plague was a mutated form of a virus native to the planet Varl.

FNV-23, known also as the Gray Death, was an Imperial-created virus first tested on the planet Sedesia. Developed under the auspices of the Pathogen-Based Loyalty Enhancement Program by Doctor Fesjo Negleem, this virus had the property of continually changing its antigen needs, making it impossible for an individual to become immune to it.

The Fear Virus was a virus developed by the Separatists during the Clone Wars. It was a relatively simple virus and so could be killed by most antiviral compounds, such as those found in a starship's bio-scrubbers, as well as by exposure to vacuum. It had both a solid, slime-like form as well as an airborne form. When beings were exposed to the airborne form, it took one hour for the virus to affect them, though it was possible for beings to resist it at this time, and it would affect them more and more each hour. The slime-like substance, however, affected anyone who came in contact with it. The virus itself attacked the victim's brain, causing hallucinations which were generated from the more morbid regions of the victim's mind. These illusions were very dangerous, however, as the victim's were essentially hypnotized and so would fully believe that any fantastic creature from their imagination, or past, that they see was real. Any damage that the illusionary creature dealt them would thus cause actual damage, generally in the form of blisters, cuts, and bruises. However, the cure for the virus was in the victim's subconscious; squirtguns, whipped cream pies, odd gestures, and other nonsense that children would use to ward off or dispell their imaginery monsters would also work against these illusions. The only known containers of the virus were placed upon a bulk freighter which drifted in space for over one hundred years before being found. Somehow during this time it had become a burned out wreck with holes in its hull through the bridge and engineering sections. Also, for over 75 years before being found, the ships bio-scrubbers had been over-loaded. Though the group entered the ship and were attacked by both the virus itself and the droids on board, they managed to make it off alive and decontaminated the entire ship of the virus, taking it as their own.

Findris Flu was a common illness that tended to linger on in its victims, even after normal treatment was complete. Jacen Solo compared Borsk Fey'lya to it.

Force Blinding was a light side Force power. Upon use of this technique, what appeared as a blinding flash of energy emanated from a user's hand, which manifested as a flash of light that overloaded a target's vision, causing temporary blindness. A powerful tool of the light side, a Jedi could obfuscate an opponent's sight, making it difficult for the adversary to spot and attack the Jedi or anyone else. However, a trained Force-sensitive who had prepared themself could defend against this technique by using Force Sight. Still, if the Jedi could Blind an unprepared enemy before they reached out with Force Sight, the Blind could still be effective. Although it was classically a light side power, both the Dark Jedi Yun and the Force apparition Dark Mara were able to use it.

Force Drain refers to a spectrum of offensive Force powers, tied to the same concept, which used the dark side of the Force to tap into the strengths of an organic target. Mastery of each technique could scale the area of effect, sometimes dramatically, or exhaust the victims almost instantaneously.?

Fronk's Fever was a fictitious ailment that was referenced to by Han Solo while making his departure from the world of Etti IV.

Gamorrean Rot was a disease that originated on the planet Gamorr. It eventually mutated to affect non-Gamorrean races over time.

The Gobindi virus was first discovered by the ancient Gobindi, who were utterly wiped out from its spreading. The Gobindi discovered a cure, but failed to administer it quickly enough to survive. Thriving in hot and humid environments, the virus required a liquid medium to move from one host to another, thus remaining mildly contagious at best. Imperial scientists discovered a way to allow the virus to move through the air and developed it into a biological weapon. The virus itself resembled a tiny, horned eel that wrapped its host in a coating of green slime to maintain its environment. Covered in the slime, the host could continue to move about, spreading the virus. The Empire's plan to use the virus as a weapon was ultimately foiled. (GOF3)

The Gray Death was a deadly disease affecting the Yevethan race. Note: This is not to be confused with FNV-23, informally referred to as the Gray Death.

Gray Rot was a plague that caused the skin of the infected being to turn gray and rot off. It was only treatable within the first few days of infection. Some womp rats on Tatooine were carrying this plague.

The Great Pandemic of Deersheba was a malady coming from Neimoidia and spread by the Neimoidians.

The Great Plague was the greatest of all offworld afflictions that the X'Ting race experienced some 100 years before the Clone Wars. Many of the X'Ting survivors believed that the plague was unleashed by the executives of Cestus Cybernetics and their allies, the Confederacy of Independent Systems.

The Hardan plague was a virulent disease known to be transported by Bogan's brown nafen. An outbreak which killed 98% of the population on Dagelin Minor was traced back to a shipment of nafen imported to control the Dhuru fly population.

A headache described a pain in the head that was experienced by a sentient being. These types of pains could take place anywhere in the skull, and in any species that possessed distinct cranial features, however the term was most often used by Humans. Headaches were usually simple pains, but could sometimes be a symptom of a much larger or serious problem.

Hemorrhagic molting was a disease contracted on Coruscant.

Hesken Fever was a non-fatal disease fairly common throughout the galaxy. Alliance to Restore the Republic pilot Wes Janson contracted the disease suddenly while on a scouting mission, preventing his participation in the assault on the first Death Star. Jek Tono Porkins took his place instead, and was killed during the battle.

Hibernation sickness was the term given to a collection of temporary side-effects to a being's removal from suspended animation. Hibernation sickness could include temporary stiffness, muscle weakness, numbness, deafness and blindness (or, on the other end of the scale, hypersensitivity), and/or confusion. The symptoms rarely lasted for more than a day, and even more rarely caused death. Han Solo suffered from hibernation sickness after being rescued from carbonite by Leia Organa.

Hive viruses were highly contagious viruses. Prior to the Clone Wars, the virus was fairly common. They were characterized by a dormancy period followed by mass activation, mediated by unknown means. After the Clone Wars, medical technology flourished, and this type of virus was virtually wiped out from the Galaxy. One of the most virulent strains of hive virus attacked the mental centers of the brain, altering perceptions. Individuals were driven mad in a relatively short span of time. This strain was actually the cause of the loss of the Katana Fleet. Part of the crew picked up a hive virus in one of their ports of call in their maiden voyage and the virus quickly spread among the entire fleet while dormant. When it became active, all the crew were struck at once. The crew of the command ship survived long enough to slave the ships together and jump to hyperspace along with the Katana Fleet. An incurable strain of hive virus was deployed on the planet Firrerre by the Galactic Empire's elite Starcrash Brigade under orders from the Procurator of Justice Hethrir. The virus quickly wiped out all life on the planet in the space of a few days by eating through the bodies of its victims while they were still alive. To prevent the virus from spreading offworld, the planet was quarantined. Hethrir himself was a Firrerreo who had ordered this atrocity to prove his unquestionable loyalty to the humanocentric Imperial leadership.

Hyper-rapture was a supposed form of madness acquired when one stared into hyperspace for a prolonged time. To prevent this, standard procedures for Imperial ships were to opaque their transparisteel slabs while traveling through it.

Influenza necrosi was a bio-engineered, deadly form of the flu discovered by the Galactic Empire and intended for use as a biological weapon. Discovered on the planet Gobindi, influenza necrosi evolved in the planet's dense rainforests. The stages of the virus were set apart from other infections in the Galaxy, as the virus turned its host into a living carrier. The first stage of infection was very much like normal influenza, causing sore throat, runny nose, fever and exhaustion. The second stage of infection started when the host started to wear out from the first stage, resulting in increased fatigue. The third stage was horrifying, causing a thick, slimy sweat to run from the victim's body, covering them in a gelatinous goop. At this stage, the virus took over the body's motor system, giving the newly created "blob monster" a very basic level of intelligence. The "blob monster" would attack with strands of this slime, which was a transmission medium for the virus. The Shi'ido Borborygmus Gog used Imperial research for the virus in his project, Starscream. The Gobindi left an anti-virus on a ziggurat, the discovery of which saved Zak and Tash Arranda.

The Intestinal Revenge of Bars Barka was a lethal virus that originated on Neimoidia. Sometime before the end of the Galactic Civil War, this disease struck scores of Ubese colonists, resulting in severe emaciation. It is unknown whether this outbreak was accidental, or the result of a trade-related attack by the Neimoidians.

The itching plague was one of the more unique problems affecting the Vongforming of Yuuzhan'tar after the Yuuzhan Vong conquered the planet Coruscant. A fungus released by the World Brain, the plague caused massive, persistent itching. Though in theory, the Yuuzhan Vong should have simply ignored it, a number of high ranking members of the Elite succumbed to the stress of the fungi rather easily. The release of the plague was also inauspicious—it was first discovered the day Supreme Overlord Shimrra arrived on Yuuzhan'tar. Eventually, Master Shaper Nen Yim was able to develop an anti-fungal balm, but it would only kill the fungi on contact. And it was still possible to be re-infected. The plague was still present even as of 29 ABY, two years after it was first released.

Jundland Pox was a disease that reportedly affected one in a million creatures on Tatooine. In 1 ABY the Bestine Hospital Medical Chief discovered an area of the planet that contained a higher than usual concentration of the disease. The Medical Chief hired hunters to significantly narrow the population of animals in that area to prevent further spread of the disease.

Jurrinex6 was a form of the Hive Virus developed by biological terrorists.

The Kallil-virus was distinguished by the way in which it clumped together in a jelly-like mass.

The Kaminoan Nano-Virus was a virus created by a Separatist-aligned Kaminoan to kill all clone troopers. It was discovered by the Jedi Kit Fisto and Aayla Secura a few months after the Battle of Geonosis, who were staying at Kamino when they passed a squad of dead troops. After confirming a deadly virus, Prime Minister Lama Su issued Master Cloner Sayn Ta to create a vaccine to protect all clones. Fisto and Secura tracked the defector and killed her, but could not save Sayn Ta from being killed. After Ta's death, the other cloners injected vaccines into all clones.

The Karatos Plague was a deadly viral infection that originated on the planet Concord Dawn. Traveling in spores, the virus relentlessly attacked the internal chemistry of its host. Blindness occurred in forty minutes, followed by brain death within an hour. Natives of Concord Dawn were inoculated against the virus as children, so the aggressiveness of this virus was mostly experienced only by offworlders. Jango Fett carried Karatos Plague spores in his armor that he could release when needed. He infected Count Dooku with them and offered an antidote dependent on an additional concession, but Dooku used the Living Force, possibly Detoxify Poison, to neutralize the disease.

Knowt's Disease was a degenerative affliction that destroyed body tissue. Pter Thanas died of it less than five years after being diagnosed. The wealthy Coruscanti businessman, Archa Sabis, was also afflicted with the disease but was able to save himself by replacing his afflicted body parts with cybernetic replacements.

Knytix Pox was a disease communicated by the knytix insect of Thyferra. It was highly contagious, and could be acquired by simply breathing in a concentrated area of knytix.

Kozema was a trans-species disease. It was one of the more common diseases in the case of nosocomial infections.

The Krytos virus was a genetically engineered bioweapon designed by the Galactic Empire in 7 ABY that caused the deaths of millions of aliens. Once it infected a host, the virus destroyed the infected host body cell by cell until the victim's flesh fell apart completely, resulting in an agonizing death. Highly contagious, the Krytos virus was designed to both target only non-Human populations and be treated by large amounts of bacta. The virus was transmitted by physical contact or through a water supply, but could not spread by airborne transmission. The plague was eventually eradicated by the Vratix, a bacta-producing insectoid species from Thyferra, who combined bacta and ryll kor to develop rylca, the most effective medicine against the disease.?

The Lali Plague was a great plague that caused incredible amounts of geopolitical damage when it swept across a planet, during the last decades of the Old Republic. Its effects were often covered in political science classes.

Leuma was a virus invented by Han Solo. He had a medical facility quarantined against the newly-discovered virus, which appeared to be either an airborne virus or spore.

The Loedorvian Brain Plague was an extremely deadly plague used as a biological weapon by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the height of the Clone Wars. The plague attacked the brain and central nervous system in Humans, killing them in a short period of time. General Grievous ordered Separatist forces to release the plague on the Weemell Sector, wiping out the entire Human population, including the clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic. The sector was rendered uninhabitable in a matter of months.

The Luf Virus was a particularly offensive, communicable disease that affected most humanoid races. It originated on the planet M'haeli, and flourished in cities and ghettos.

Lungrot was a disease contracted on Coruscant.

Melanncho was a disease experienced by the Odenji race which caused great sadness in the victim, sometimes driving the victim insane.

Merthian Lung Infection was a mild disease with symptoms of a wheezing cough and a runny nose experienced for several weeks.

Mon Calamari Nerveshock was a fatal disease that affected Mon Calamari. It could remain dormant in its host for several years as the host ages. When it finally becomes active, it is already too late to save the victim. Rapid degeneration of the nervous system was the primary result of the virus, which eventually left the Mon Calamari unable to survive. For these reasons, all Mon Calamari children were immunized against it.

The nano-destroyer was an artificially-created virus that destroyed the infected person's body one cell at a time. The cause of the illness that befell Mon Mothma seven years after the Battle of Endor were nano-destroyers that had been developed on Carida and delivered by that world's governor, who had poisoned a drink with the virus prior to splashing it in the Chief of State's face.

A nanovirus was a fatal virus designed to only kill specific groups of people that it had been developed to. One was under development at the start of the Clone Wars, by the Separatist-aligned Doctor Ovolot Qail Uthan, which was specifically engineered to target clone troopers. She and her scientific team were sent to a secret lab on the remote planet of Qiilura to carry out their work. However, before development of the virus could be completed, Uthan was captured by Omega Squad and brought into Republic custody. The lab was destroyed and development of the virus presumably stopped. Uthan was imprisoned and Supreme Chancellor Palpatine would later consider her to be a back-up plan for stopping the clone troopers if they ever turned on him. A variant of the virus was later developed by the Moff Council by the time of the Second Galactic Civil War.[3] It was first used during the First Battle of Roche, where it specifically targeted the Verpine soldier caste, while leaving other Verpine unharmed. Soon after, variants were developed to target the Fett family and the Hapan Royal Family.

Nerf-pox was a virus that affected Alderaanian youths. Trevor Insevade had it in 22 BBY. ((Nerf-pox is probably similar to the chickenpox.))

The perilous laughing spell was a spell contracted by touching a loonee bird. It caused the unfortunate victim to laugh uncontrollably, a spell that could plague its victim forever and would temporarily affect any who went near them. Only the tears from Mount Sorrow could cure the spell. The Ewok Teebo was once affected by the spell, but was eventually cured by Mount Sorrow's tears.

A persistent vegetative state was a condition of patients with severe brain damage in whom coma has progressed to a state of wakefulness without detectable awareness.

Petal Fever was a mild disease common on newly-settled planets. It was not fatal if treated quickly.

In an ancient war in a distant galaxy, a plague bomb was used to destroy the population of the homeworld of Ship's pilot. When Ship returned from seeming triumph, having defeated the last rival mecho-organic vessel and seemingly won the war, Ship's crew found their world desolated, and they all succumbed to the plague before they could return to ship, with the exception of the pilot. To the best of his knowledge, the pilot was the only member of his species to survive the plague.

Plyridian Fever was a disease that was often fatal if not properly diagnosed and treated. It had an incubation period of about four weeks; any being discovered to have the initial symptoms of the disease had to be quarantined for up to four weeks to determine whether or not this particular disease was the cause of the patient's symptoms.

Pneumonia was a disease.

Poltur was a flesh-eating virus carried by the urnsori'is of Kashyyyk for which there was no known cure.

Quannot's Syndrome was an inexplicable, degenerative disease which attacked the nervous system and caused body-wide deterioration of the victim. Nichos Marr suffered and died from Quannot's Syndrome.

The RNA brainwashing virus was an Imperial project developed to insert RNA into the brains of sentients. Because memories were made of RNA, it was thought that this virus would provide the Galactic Empire with the ability to brainwash anyone they wished which was self-propagating and would destroy any chance of a Rebellion. Though the researchers were screened for Rebel sympathies, they were so horrified by the implications of the research that they destroyed the project and defected to the Rebel Alliance. A datatape containing their research turned up in an auction aboard the Ananuru Express and, though Imperial Intelligence agent Secesh Trant attempted to steal it, it was recovered by a group of Rebels. It was thought to then be destroyed so it could never fall into the wrong hands.

Rachuk Roseola was an irritating skin inflammation, which was caused by a virus that was found in the Rachuk system, specifically on the world of Vladet. This form of roseola infected nearly every visitor to the planet, unless they were properly vaccinated prior to their arrival. When visiting the Imperial military base commanded by Admiral Devlia on Vladet's Grand Isle, Kirtan Loor contracted the virus.

The Rakghoul Plague was a disease designed by Sith Lord Karness Muur in addition to the Muur Talisman in order to turn others into mindless thralls he could command. After under unknown circumstances the Talisman ended up in the Undercity of Taris, the Rakghoul Plague raged in the Undercity for many centuries. All non-Force-sensitive who encountered direct contact with the Talisman were almost immediately transformed into Rakghouls. These monsters further spread the plague amongst the Outcasts—the inhabitants of the Undercity. Individuals infected with the disease would later transform into rakghouls themselves. After contact with a rakghoul infection with the disease was a rapid and painful experience. The victim was transformed into a rakghoul within 6 to 48 hours. Bodies would become twisted, skin pigmentation would drain and the victim would turn attain a whitened corpse-like state. The plague however did not affect Force-users and many non-human species. Rakghoul serum was medicine that cured the Rakghoul disease that once infected, would cause people to turn into Rakghouls. During his quest to leave Taris, Revan found some serum on the corpse of a dead Sith trooper and turned it over to Zelka Forn, the Upper City doctor.

Rhees-Verk Breathing was the medical term used to describe a form of syncopated breathing rhythm that sometimes caused ventricular fibrillation in the heart of a being. It was especially dangerous for races like the Zabrak, which had multiple hearts that needed to operate synchronously.

Rhinorrhea was a disease that was common among the Ortolan race. ((Rhinorrhea is the medical term for a runny nose.))

Rodian Dank was a highly contagious disease that affected the Rodian race. It could be transferred via bodily fluids, or even by breathing in the same area as an infected individual.

Rodian Jungle-Rot, believed to have originated on the planet Rodia, was a disease which affected the skin.

Rodian influenza was a contagious disease that Rodians may have caught or transmitted.

Rojo Fever was an often fatal illness that spread quickly once established. For this reason, once the disease was identified in a community, the entire area was quarantined to prevent an epidemic.

Rooze Disease was an affliction, one of the deadliest in the galaxy, caused by the deadly rooze germ agent that affected Humans. After the germ infected the body, it would cause the victim's health to slowly deteriorate until, if not cured after roughly three standard days, it disintegrated the body within seconds. During these days the patient would feel dizziness and a strange sensation that his or her hands faded away. As it happened, Koboks like Gaff were immune. It was first tested as a biological weapon by the Galactic Empire during its first years but it eliminated the Imperial troops along with the rebels it was targeted against and was never used again. Governor Koong of Tawntoom on Roon made the same mistake and unleashed it on the pastoral Umboo province, infecting himself in the process. Nilz Yomm eventually discovered a cure for the germ. In addition to its medicinal value, a Kobok heavily dosed with the substance will begin to manically laugh uncontrollably, unable to perform any other action while under its effect.

Rotting Disease was a type of disease that was propagated by the tesfli piercer, which were native to the world of Gorsh. Victims bitten by the tesfli piercer who did not seek medical attention found the bitten limb suddenly swollen and then turn a discolored black. The flesh soon fell apart, rendering the limb useless. This disease was at its worst when a victim was bitten dozens or hundreds of times upon encountering a swarm of these insects.

Sangi Fever was a deadly infectious disease that was highly contagious. In one well known instance it was spread by the infamous Sangi Fever Sal. ((Inspiration for Sangi Fever Sal is obviously drawn from the case of Typhoid Mary. Therefore Sangi Fever is likely analogous to Typhoid Fever.))

Scurrier Disease was an unusual disease believed to be carried by wild scurriers, sometimes contracted on the planet Tatooine.

Shadow Fever was a disease believed to be confined to the planet Ord Cestus, where it was often fatal if left untreated.

Silicalung was a disease contracted on Coruscant.

Sinjaffe was a childhood disease that sometimes struck young members of the Bitthævrian race. It was almost always fatal. Aul Tarrus Vishav suffered sinjaffe as a child; however, due to his personal endurance and physical condition, he overcame the illness in only days. His arm since kept some large bands as a memory.

The sleeping virus was a virus that only Humans could catch, and put its victims into a comatose state. It was planted onto a talisman by the Galactic Empire. Chewbacca tried to destroy the Talisman before Luke Skywalker could be infected, but it occurred anyway.

Smashbone Fever was a disease that caused the ligaments in a being's body to tear violently, literally smashing the bones when they ruptured. The disease was believed to be caused by a microorganism that was neither bacteria nor virus, and was considered about fifty percent fatal even when treated with muscle relaxants. Although there was no known cure for the disease, it sometimes went into remission, only to reappear later in life.

Spice Narcosis was a condition experienced by many Sevari who left their native world of Sevarcos. The atmosphere of Sevarcos was laden with spice particles, and the Sevari had become used to it over time. However, if a Sevari left Sevarcos without carrying a supply of spice to breathe, he could enter a state of narcosis.

Spleen-rot was one of many debilitating diseases believed to have been caused by the inhalation or ingestion of various molds and spores native to the planet Drongar.

Spore Sickness was a common term used to describe any number of illnesses that could be contracted by breathing in the adaptogenic spores of the multitude of fungi that were native to the planet Drongar. The spore sickness was especially common among offworlders, who had not yet adjusted to Drongar's unique environment. For this reason, incoming starships regularly cleaned their ventilation systems before and after arriving at Drongar. In most cases, spore sickness caused damage to the lungs, forcing the body to battle the spores by raising the body temperature to exceptionally high levels, essentially cooking an individual in their own body fluids. Interestingly, the spores were only dangerous when encountered in the atmosphere. At ground levels, the spores appeared to be harmless.

The Taren Plague was a dreaded disease slowed by the use of drugs created on Meris III. A jungle world, Meris III's rich natural environment led to the development of many unique life forms; one plant was proven to be a particularly effective treatment for Taren plague and related viruses. There were several harvesting colonies on the planet, with pharmaceutical refinement factories on Merisee.

Tastiged Flu was a highly contagious flu.

The Tegnest spore—along with coomb, brollup, and at least a dozen other varieties—was one of Nom Anor's alchemical creations. A hobby of his, the creation of such spores was, at least officially, a method for killing the "supercreatures" more commonly known as Jedi Knights.

The Tendor Virus was a deadly virus that threatened to wipe out the entire Caldoni system, until Jenna Zan Arbor discovered a cure more than twelve years before the Battle of Naboo.

Thorn Fever was a deadly virus with no known cure.

Toli-X was a deadly, mutated virus that lived in molds existing on the surface of certain asteroids. In this way, the virus could move from planet to planet. It infected a great number of worlds some twenty-five years before the Battle of Naboo, before the scientists and medical personnel of the Old Republic discovered a vaccine. Most who contracted the virus could be cured by the vaccine. It was later discovered that the planet Kegan had suffered an outbreak of the virus, but because of their isolationist government, had never learned of the vaccine.

Trichinitis was an easily treated disease.

Triflexia was a disease which attacked the blood vessels, causing their walls to inflate their cells three times the normal size. As well as increasing the blood pressure, it also cut off oxygen exchange in the lungs, throttled the esophagus and crushed brain tissue in the skull. Rebel scientists were searching for a cure for it during the Galactic Civil War, but what they did not know was that it had in fact been bioengineered by the Galactic Empire for use as a poison. Imperial spy Tanya Madera used this poison to kill both Chief Technician Adonar Dellox and one of the X-wing pilots from Reginard Base. To adminster it, she used a needler pistol.

The Vaa-tumor was an affliction specific to Yuuzhan Vong master Shapers, and was believed to have been a piece of brain matter of the goddess Yun-Ne'Shel herself. Each Master had to go through a period of personal sacrifice, during which a piece of the tumor was implanted in their body. The pain had to be endured, as the tumor supposedly altered the Shaper's own cells and brought her closer to Yun-Ne'Shel. After the period of sacrifice, the tumor was removed, and the Shaper was changed forever.

Veizen Fever was believed to drive the Moochers of Abregado-rae into fits of madness. It was feared that an outbreak of the Fever might also affect the Gado population, and for this reason the Tundei regime allowed the virtual extermination of the Moocher population.

Velmoc Flu was a form of the flu found on the planet Velmor. It was believed to be a minor inconvenience to the Velmoc population, but was considered deadly to the Human population of the planet.

Vira606 was a synthetic virus manufactured for the Imperial Security Bureau. It was always fatal, although it was not contagious. It could be kept in remittance through regular injections of a serum developed to counteract its effects. Vocis Kenit infected the Solar Terrors with Vira606 and rationed out the serum as the pirates performed requested tasks.

Wasp Fever was the phrase used by the Korunnai to indicate the effects of being bitten or stung by a fever wasp. As the larvae of the wasp grew and began to feed on the brain cells of a host, the host experienced dementia, then severe seizures and spasms, as if suffering from a head injury. In general, wasp fever only lasted three or four days, which was the incubation period of the larvae. Any Korunnai stung by the fever wasp was generally considered dead on the spot, and their body was burned to prevent the larvae from hatching and causing more damage.

Yellow-blood Malaise was a disease that was often fatal if contracted by a Wookiee.

Zithrom’s Disease was a kidney disorder that affected many elderly Human males. It was kept in check through the use of Clondex, although Clondex didn't cure the disease.

KRYTOS VIRUS

Symptoms

"There is a Gamorrean in there who has been turned into a mass of jelly. The disease killed him, but it did so in a way that didn't let him die until he could experience every fragment of pain possible." ¯Gavin Darklighter

After a twelve day incubation period, the Krytos virus entered into a one-week debilitating process in which it replicated itself in the host body. Once a cell was filled with the virus, that cell soon exploded and the cell next to it became infected. The circulatory system carried the virus throughout the body cell by cell. The virus did not destroy pain receptors, so the process was particularly agonizing for the victim, particularly during the final stages.[1] A miasmal stench grew stronger as the symptoms of the virus increased.[2]

The debilitating process took place in seven stages, one for each day of the disease. The subject started off feeling only slightly ill, not unlike a case of the common cold, but otherwise appeared and felt relatively normal. During the second stage, the subject began to feel more fatigued and placid, and increasingly appeared to be in a stupor, with glassy eyes fixed on a specific point. Next, in the third stage, the subject's skin began to show signs of splotchiness, with flesh weakening and sagging. By the fourth stage, black boils started radiating on the subject's skin, including the tongue and feet, with an appearance resembling a spiderweb of lines that connected the boils to one another. The subject typically avoided putting pressure on the boils in an effort to reduce the pain from them. The subject also experienced dryness of mouth and a lack of mucus or saliva. In the fifth stage, the black boils began to break open and the flesh cracked along the spiderweb-like lines. By the time the subject reached the sixth stage, the pain continued to grow and dementia kicked in. The subject began to run hysterically, darting in all directions and hurling him or herself against walls, tracking blood and infectious fluids everywhere and vomiting blood. Finally, in the seventh and most painful stage, the flesh began to fall apart completely or, in the case of some species, liquefy. Skin became disconnected from the bones and muscles snapped, resulting in the subject's death.[2]

Although the general process was always the same, elements of it varied from species to species. During the final stages, the skin of most species became translucent and discolored and hung in ragged ribbons from the subjects. However, the skin of more aquatic-based species, like Quarren and Mon Calamari, went completely black and the bones liquefied, leaving the victim little more than a sack of Krytos-infected fluid.[2]

Diagnosis

"The Quarren die more gracefully, if liquefaction can be seen as graceful." ¯Evir Derricote[src]

The list of species susceptible to the Krytos virus included, but was not limited to, Quarren, Mon Calamari, Gamorreans, Shistavanens, Duros, Twi'leks, Wookiees, Eloms, Gotals, Trandoshans[2] and Baragwin.[3] The virus was designed with cross-species susceptibility in mind, so only a handful of alien races were immune to it, most notably Bothans.[2]

The Krytos virus was specifically engineered to target alien species, and as such Humans were immune to the disease. While developing Krytos, Evir Derricote acknowledged the possibility that a spontaneous mutation could change the virus enough that Humans could become infected, but the chances of such an incident were extremely remote and would have taken up to 1,000 years to come to fruition. In that time, the species could build an immunity or develop a vaccine, although Derricote said such a measure would require ten to twenty more resources than he needed to design the virus.[1]

"We have evidence to suggest the virus was introduced into the water supply, and for all we know, there are pockets of virus frozen in the glaciers just waiting to become virulent again." ¯Ackbar[src]

Coruscant, the planet that hosted the most notable outbreak of the Krytos virus in 7 ABY. Coruscant, the planet that hosted the most notable outbreak of the Krytos virus in 7 ABY.

A subject could become infected by the Krytos virus through contact with virus-laden bodily fluids and tissues. One milliliter of an infected patient's blood could infect an adult. If physically injected or ingested, as little as one cubic centimeter of virus-laden liquid was enough to infect a subject, with an almost 100 percent infection rate. If the virus touched flesh, however, about ten cubic centimeters of viral fluid were needed to infect a patient, and the infection rate dropped to 20 percent. The virus was viable for thirty-six hours outside a host, and could survive longer in warm and moist weather conditions.[2]

The Krytos virus could survive in water for about one day and, as it could be frozen and thawed without any loss of viability or lethality, tended to freeze into glaciers and continue to affect bodies of water over a sustained period of time. The virus was not, however, transmissible by air because the same genetics that would have allowed this would also have greatly facilitated a spontaneous mutation that could have made the virus affect Humans. The high rate of mutation also weakened the virus's defenses, which would eventually contribute to the virus being studied and eradicated.[2]

The Krytos virus was designed to include a brief incubation period in order to circulate the lethal virus more quickly but, in fact, the illness spread too rapidly to be as effective as possible. Those infected died too quickly to spread the disease very far, leading to a shortage of hosts that hampered the ability of the virus to spread. Due to the cross-species susceptibility of the Krytos virus, it was also prone to mutations, which rendered the illness less virulent.[2]

Treatment and prevention

"More than enough [rylca] to eradicate the virus will be available here well before our bacta supply runs out." ¯Mon Mothma[src]

The Krytos virus could be treated and cured with bacta, the synthetic chemical substance used to treat almost every type of injury and ailment known in the galaxy; however, vast quantities of the medicine was needed to cure the virus, and the more severe the case of the disease, the more was needed. During the later stages of the virus, some organs and extremities became so damaged that they required cybernetic replacement, even despite extensive bacta treatment.[1] Bacta therapy prior to infection provided no deterrent to the Krytos virus.[2]

Ryll, a weak form of spice from the planet Ryloth, could be combined with bacta to increase the medicine's efficiency. The impact it had varied widely among the various ryll classifications, and ryll kor, the rarest grade of ryll, which consisted of only about three percent of the spice, contained the trace elements that had the strongest effect against the virus. Combining bacta with ryll kor enhanced the alazhi component of bacta and created rylca, the most effective medicinal treatment.[2]
